MEET BART

Dr. Bart Pemberton

Vision

Over the past two years, we’ve seen a school board more focused on politics and mandates than on education, more focused on teaching students what to think rather than how to think. We’ve seen a school board that looks at parents as obstacles to be overcome rather than partners in achieving the best academic results possible for their children.

45% of CFSD children are not proficient in math.

37% of CFDS children are not proficient in reading.

I and two other candidates, Bill Morgan and Grace Jasin, will change that if elected. We will prioritize reading, writing, math, civics, science, and the arts. Not politics. We will prioritize education for all children, and we will collaborate with parents to meet their needs in school.

We will focus on results, not rhetoric. We will focus on curriculum transparency, not curriculum secrecy. We will focus on the health and well-being of all the students, and that means proper school security and keeping parents informed of their children’s performance and behavior in the classroom.

Bio

I have been practicing as an optometrist in Tucson, AZ since 1999. I specialize in contact lenses for the correction of irregular, diseased, or traumatized corneas, as well as primary care of diseases and disorders of the eye.

I'm a product of public school education from elementary school all the way through undergraduate and graduate/professional school. My wife and I have been active parents with the schools our children have attended in the district since they started kindergarten. I was a member of the School Site council at Manzanita, actively involved with the Family Faculty Organization (FFO) at Manzanita Elementary School (Chairman of Handy Helpers Committee). I'm a past president of the AZ Optometric Association, a long-time volunteer at a local church, and I have served the community as a part of the Knights of Columbus. I am also the Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout Troop.

I had three of my children attending schools in the Catalina Foothills school district until recently. The turmoil of the past two years resulted in my wife and I moving two of them to other schools and eventually in my decision to run for school board.
