BOARD'S HANDLING OF THE PANDEMIC:
A Comparison

Current Governing Board
(Amy Bhola & Amy Krauss Running Again in 2022 as Thrive4CFSD Team)

  • Implemented harmful and discriminatory COVID policies that were not science-based

  • Failure to lead; deferred decisions to Superintendent (justified as operational decision falling under her purview rather than policy falling under theirs)  See section below for videos and plan that support this

  • Ignored Governor’s Executive Order

  • Blindly followed the CDC “guidance” despite evidence showing policies/masks ineffective causing more harm than COVID (anxiety, depression, suicide)

  • Went lockstep with Pima County in decisions while private/charter and other public schools went back in-person, mask optional without issues

  • Exposed students’ medical history

  • Divided students amongst peers

  • Banned students (for up to 10 days) with no sickness or symptoms

  • Contributed to and oversaw the unprecedented academic loss

  • Ignored parents and kept volunteers out of school

  • Long-term damage to students & families: mental health & social issues, developmental delays, loss of income, learning & friendships

"There are a lot of parents right now that think we the school board is responsible for these action items, and we are not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school district." - Amy Bhola

Amy Bhola, Amy Krauss and current Governing Board do not understand their role as board members.  They pick and choose their responsibilities.  Both Amys claim that decisions to open schools and mandate masks are operational, day-to-day decisions that fall under the Superintendent's authority.  However, that changed when they disagreed with the Governor, State Legislature, and Pima County Supervisors and then decided it was their role and all agreed to implement a mandatory mask mandate.  Parents asked for masks to be future agenda items and masks became not their responsibility again.  These decisions are clearly policy decisions.  Many if not all Governing Boards across the state and country were responsible and owning these decisions, except for CFSD.  It is also clearly stated in the Safe Return to In Person Instruction Plan (required by the government for Covid funding), that it is Governing Board" policy.  See below.

CFSD Safe Return to In Person Instruction Plan (Page 4)

asks for Governing Board "Policy" on masks & other CDC recommendations as required to receive ESSER (Covid) funds. Note the comment "(not board policy)."

See here for entire CFSD plan.

"We had a suggestion today to put masks on the agenda, that is an operational decision that we will defer to Dr. Kamerzell and her team." - Amy Krauss

"I'm way more angry than any of you are.  I'm furious.  I'm furious with our state legislature, I'm furious with our governor, I'm furious with our Board of Supervisors"  -Amy Krauss

Governing Board discusses whether to comply with the Legislature's efforts to ban mask mandates while legality is challenged.  CFSD Governing Board made the decision to require masks.

"There's an inconvenience of wearing a piece of cloth on your face"  - Amy Bhola

"Good leaders do not lead with emotional bias.  Good leaders lead by making risk calculations in order to arrive at sound decisions based on facts and data."

- CFSD Parent

"Are you going to accept responsibility for the suicides, mental health issues being created and inhibiting the oxygen to these vulnerable and developing brains?"

"Breathing freely is a medical decision and choice and you do not have the authority to take that away."

"You do not have the power to make my children's medical decisions.  That is a medical right and freedom solely by us as our parents."

- Doctor & CFSD Parent

"It is my choice as a parent how to take care of my kids, just like it's my neighbor's choice how to take care of their kids"

- CFSD Parent

"The reason I served you was for freedom.

Why are you taking away our freedoms?"

- United States Air Force Veteran

"Let's look at the deaths by age demographics within your district.  District 16 records the following deaths broken down by age:

0-19:  0

20-44:  0

45-54:  0

55-64:  0

65+:  All 34 deaths

This disease affects a small portion of our population and children are not at risk."
