Agenda Comparison

It's Time for a CHANGE

CURRENT GOVERNING BOARD

(Amy Bhola & Amy Krauss, running again in 2022)

  • Continued focus on identity-based “education” social, emotional learning, and politics

    • Gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.

    • Students have been asked to declare their "pronouns" based on self-selected gender according to how they feel

    • Some materials and discussions may include lessons in Critical Race Theory, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation (woven into subject areas – reading, writing, math, etc.)

    • Board allows schools to have identity-based student clubs in which students may miss instructional time without parental consent

  • Relies on Arizona School Board Association for "Policy Services," which supports them in developing and maintaining school policy

    • ASBA STRONGLY influences member districts' policies

      • ASBA proposes policy, sends to member school districts through PolicyBridge cloud-based platform for review and approval, which often goes without any real discussion or parental involvement.  Policy is then approved, updated and maintained on the ASBA platform.

      • ASBA claims to be "non-partisan" but has a "political agenda" on their website

      • Advocates for and prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion in education over academic excellence

      • Recently Casa Grande Elementary adopted a Nondiscrimination and Gender Identity Policy that includes "bathroom-use" based on self-selected gender.  This was proposed by ASBA and adopted by the school.

        • When will this be discussed at CSFD?

        • Currently, parents have to make an effort to go to the CFSD Governing Board website and look at the agenda, which may be posted within as little as 24 hours before the meeting, which brings us to the next topic

  • Lacks transparency & communication

    • Board complies with law by putting meeting notices/agenda on website but does not communicate with families

    • Board hears community members and parents during call to the public at open meetings but doesn't come back to address concerns, or to add topics or suggestions to the agenda

    • Board quietly posts "textbooks" listing on website without announcing for 60 days;  if no complaints, approves

    • "Board approved books" (other than textbooks) is defined as allowing teachers to choose.  Board members do not read these books.  For an example of an approved book, please click here:  Add link to example of "approved" book:

    • In the last 7 years, there have been almost 1,000 motions made at Catalina Foothills School Board meetings.

      • There has never been a single dissenting vote made on any decision.

      • 100% yes votes by the same long-term board members with little to no board discussion and little to no parent involvement in any decision

  • Lacks common sense safety practices for all students

    • Provides safety resource officer only at the HS

    • Counselor page on CFSD website provides links to unsafe resources for students

      • Board supports district counselors in having resources online (website/chats) that request personal information, exposes them to strangers in chat rooms, and can be easily hidden from parents.  Some of these sites feature an "escape key" so students can quickly exit the program if parent/guardian walks by

      • An injunction was filed on Sept. 1, 2022 against Kathy Hoffman, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, for posting these same sites on the Arizona Department of Education website.  See video here.

      • This violates the basic principles of online safety and undermines parent trust

      • show Bart's video?

  • Supports maximizing funding for the District at all costs

    • Continues to support new bonds and overrides for new construction and other items without regard for impact on CFSD taxpayers and existing students.  Always states it will not increase taxes

BACK TO BASICS TEAM

Jasin, Morgan, Pemberton

  • Prioritize academics & “traditional” public education

    • Focus on reading, writing, math, civics, science and the arts for all students

    • Use materials and have discussions that do not promote ideologies

      • Materials that accurately provide historical facts with thought provoking discussions (NO Critical Race Theory)

      • Empower all students through learning

      • Teach students how to think, not what to think

    • Review and update policies for sex education for all grades

  • Improve transparency and communication with families

    • Implement transparent review process for all lesson plans and materials used in classrooms (ex. notify parents that materials are posted for 60-day review period and provide link/details, etc.)

    • Notify communities of upcoming board meetings and provide agenda in advance so members can review and attend

    • Encourage families and make them feel they are always welcome on our campus; allow them to be active CFSD community members and to support our classrooms, teachers and students.

    • Make sure that parent voices are heard.

    • Respect different opinions

  • Ensure safety and well-being of all students

    • Perform comprehensive review of school security and make improvements where deemed necessary after input from parents, teachers, law enforcement and security experts

    • Employ at least one armed resource officer at every campus

    • Ensure that students do not have access to resources that are potentially harmful such as the online chats that require personal information and exposure to strangers as on the CFSD HS Counseling site.

  • Renew Board’s role in governing the district

    • Seek input from both parents and teachers for decision-making and direction

    • Will not govern by consensus but will act independently based on what each of us believes is in the best interests of CFSD students and their families

    • Support teachers and help them to be their best through training that will help them to teach their subject areas better.

  • Ensure fiscal responsibility through oversight

    • Support new bonds and overrides that are necessary but oppose those that increase school capacity (new classroom construction) without decrease in class sizes

    • Increased school capacity means greater numbers of students accepted each year and a greater burden placed on the limited number of CFSD taxpayers to support growing operations

    • Prioritize all existing students (both in-district and out-of-district students), teachers, and facilities

    • Manage the number of students (both in-district and out-of-district) to fit in the existing space through normal attrition

    • Focus on student learning, teacher satisfaction and retention, and improved maintenance & operations, instead of enriching the school (as schools are funded based on headcount).

    • Schools have every incentive to maximize the number of students, which does not equate to maximizing student learning and teacher satisfaction.

  • Supports counselors in traditional role

    • Counselors should help students with issues as they arise, and help them prepare for college and careers.

    • Do not support data-based model with continuous assessments of all students
